  Battle of Romani - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Romani took place near the Egyptian town of Romani which lies 23 miles east of the Suez Canal near the Mediterranean shore of the Sinai peninsula.
At the time of the battle, his available forces comprised two British infantry divisions (the 42nd Division and the 52nd (Lowland) Division) and the Anzac Mounted Division, under General H.G. Chauvel, containing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Australian Light Horse Brigades, the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade and the 5th Mounted Brigade (British Yeomanry).
In July, 1916, the commander of the northern sector of the canal defences, General Sir H.A. Lawrence, had the 52nd Division entrenched on the eastern edge of the Romani sand hills and was using the mounted brigades to patrol the oasis to the east.

The pursuit of the retreating Turks after the Battle of Romani had seen raids on Turkish outposts at Mazar (September 17) and Maghara (October 15) but both positions were eventually evacuated by the Turks without a fight.

The battle is often regarded as demonstrating that the Royal Navy was technologically inferior to the German Navy.

Talking to bedows in the area,not one of them have ever heard of a war being fought here.Even the more educated government people in the offices in the area had no clue a war had been fought here during ww1,with most doubting that the Turks were once here.
Its transliterated Arabic name is Bi'r ar Rummânah which is a hoot and a holler away from Al Qantarah, the town known by all Light Horse devotees as Kantara, the main base for all Light Horse operations in the Sinai from 1916 until final demobilisation in 1920.
these battle fields need to be located and permenantly marked with memorials or something.i reported a few months ago on this forum that i could not find even one memorial to any british force in the sinai.
