 The Great Condé biography
His former ally, Turenne, was now on the side of the court, and after Condé had won the battle of Bléneau (April, 1652) and advanced on Paris, he was met by Turenne at the head of the royal troops.
In 1673 he commanded in the Netherlands and the next year fought a drawn battle at Seneffe with William of Orange.
This was the great general's last important battle, though in 1675 he succeeded Turenne, on the latter's death, in command of the army on the Rhine.

In 1674 Coehoorn was present at the battle of Seneffe where he behaved himself so well that he was formally appointed as major on 21 November 1674.
For Coehoorn this war was concluded at the battle of Saint Denis on 15 August 1678.
The army had thus suffered a tactical defeat, but for Coehoorn there were happy consequences: One of the colonels of the Frisian Regiments had been killed in the battle, and Coehoorn became its Colonel in stead of being only Lieutenant Colonel of the Nassau Friesland regiment.

The war was ended by the Treaty of Nijmegen Aug. 10th 1678; it left a number of Spanish Habsburg territories, amongst others the Franche Comte, in French possession.
