In fact, many of the pilots in the Battle of Britain were Polish; 35,000 Poles participated in D-Day (there were more Poles than Frenchmen by some accounts!).
The Poles need to be remembered since they not only fought hard during the war, alone against all odds, suffered much of the holocaust, had their cities and populations decimated(13 million deaths!) but although they were ostensibly the CAUSE of the war, after the war they were discarded by the west and surrendered to Stalin...
As for the question about the french on DD it was just a few hundred Commando and a 16 000 strong division in the coming battle and if the Poles were over 30 000 sure they were more numerous than the french.
