Battle of Mollwitz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Mollwitz was a Prussian battle with Austria on April 10, 1741.
It was the first battle of the new Prussian King Frederick II, in which both sides made numerous military blunders but Frederick the Great still managed to attain victory.
The Prussian infantry soon engaged the Austrian battle line and since they were some of the most well-drilled infantry of the period, were able to fire 4-5 shots a minute with their flintlock muskets, seriously outgunning their opponents.

In this command, besides his usual truculence and robber manners, he displayed conspicuous personal bravery, and in spite of the general dislike into which his vices brought him his services were so valuable that he was promoted lieutenant-colonel (1743) and colonel (1744).
But at the battle of Soor he and his irregulars plundered when they should have been fighting and Trenck was accused (probably falsely) of having allowed the king of Prussia himself to escape.
After a time he was brought before a court-martial in Vienna, which convicted him of having sold and withdrawn commissions to his officers without the queen's leave, punished his men without heed to the military code, and drawn pay and allowance for fictitious men.

On War by General Carl von Clausewitz Volume 1 BOOK IV: The Combat - History European
But modern battles are not so by accident; they are so because the parties find themselves nearly on a level as regards military organisation and the knowledge of the Art of War, and because the warlike element inflamed by great national interests has broken through artificial limits and now flows in its natural channel.
How far this may influence the dispositions in the battle is not an affair of Strategy, but the decision to fight the battle is in intimate connection with it, as is shown by the direction given to our forces, and their general grouping, whether we threaten the enemy's flank or rear, or he threatens ours.
At the battle of Kunersdorf,[*] Frederick the Great at the first onset carried the left of the Russian position, and took seventy pieces of artillery; at the end of the battle both were lost again, and the whole result of the first combat was wiped out of the account.

 Battle of Soor
In late September Frederick moved his army in a camp a few miles from the Bohemian town of Soor before returning to Silesia and winter quarters: his march was shadowed by the Austrian army of Prince Charles, which has received strict instructions from Vienna to resume offensive operations.
The Prussian camp was laid out without occupying the high ground on their right which commanded their intended line of march back to Silesia and such a disposition prompted Prince Charles to surprise the Prussians by means of a night march intended to seize the heights before daybreak.
At 5.00 warnings of enemy presence reached Frederick: a call to arms was ordered and within a short span of time the army was ready to attack the Austrian-occupied heights on their right, refusing the centre and left wing.

Chapter Mutual Understanding as to a Battle of On War by Clausewitz
Now as the advantages to the aggressor from this retreat are often not sufficient, and a substantial victory is a matter of urgent necessity for him, in that way the few means which there are to compel such an opponent also to give battle are often sought for and applied with particular skill.
The battle of Rosbach is another example, if we suppose the commander of the allied army had not really the intention of attacking Frederick the Great.
Of the battle of Soor, the King himself says that it was only fought because a retreat in the presence of the enemy appeared to him a critical operation; at the same time the King has also given other reasons for the battle.

At the start of the battle, the Prussians raced hell-for-leather to Soor to head off the Austrians, which they did, the baggage train and artillery hunkering down in Burkersdorf, with the artillery battering the nearest Prussian column that was still in march column formation.
