The war began in earnest with Edward I's sacking of Berwick in March 1296, followed by the Scottish defeat at the Battle of Dunbar and the abdication of John Balliol in July.
At the Battle of Dupplin Moor, Balliol's army, commanded by Henry Beaumont, defeated the larger Scottish force.
On October 14, at the Battle of Neville's Cross, the Scots were defeated.

Stanhope Park was located along the northern bank of the Wear, with its entrances at Westgate and Eastgate (which take their names from that fact).
If we did not know that Stanhope Park was on the north bank of the Wear, it would be difficult to decide which source to accept, though I would lean towards Barbour.

Love park is one of the best skate spots i have ever skated and I think that it is a buch of crap beause pro's and myseif and others loved to skate there and I just think that they should reopen it be it is lovepark and every one even skateboarder's need love.
Love park needs to be reopened to skateboarders because there is a whole new generation of skaters(including me) that have seen this place in videos, magazines, etc., all the time, and might not get to skate it ever.

He warned the lead miners that it would have to stop.When the poaching continued the bishop brought an army of his men into the Wear valley, arrested the suspected poaching ring leaders and temporarily imprisoned them in a local inn.
Hearing of the arrests, a large and angry crowd of lead miners quickly gathered outside the inn and demanded the release of the men.It was not long before a violent `battle' broke out, in which the Bishop's men were heavily defeated by the lead miners.

Even though the Scots lost many of the battles they eventually won the war and retained their tradition of an Independent Scottish Kingdom.
Knowing the English army would be huge Bruce chose to fight the battle in the narrow gap between the woods surrounding the village of Bannockburn and those on Gillies hill, near where the road fords the Bannock.
There were still a lot of battles to be fought and won before Scotland could truly say she was an independent nation.

Details are still hazy in some areas, but appearently Emersons abounded in the valleys near the River Wear and particularly in Weardale and the Forests of Stanhope Park.
He was severly wounded in the Battle of 2nd Manassas and died soon thereafter.
