Battle of Świecino - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Świecino (or Świecin) (named for the village of Świecino, near Żarnowiec Lake, northern Poland) also called the Battle of Żarnowiec or in German Battle of Schwetz, took place on September 17, 1462 during the Thirteen Years' War.
The Polish forces consisted of the mercenaries hired by the Polish king, Casimir IV the Jagiellon and the Hanseatic city of Danzig (Gdańsk).
The direct result of the battle of Schwetz/Świecino was that the city of Danzig and Pomerania were freed from Teutonic Order danger so that the royal and municipal armed forces could be used elsewhere in the war, mainly to protect the Vistula waterway and to capture the Teutonic held strongholds.

 Polish tactics
The initial stage of the battle, much like the Mongol 'Grand Hunt', was for the light horse to sweep around the enemy flanks to envelop them or failing this delay them allowing the Polish centre to defeat the enemy centre.
Spieralski postulated that this is because at the battle of Tannenberg  these writers saw the beginnings of this formation in the flexibility of the Polish battle order.
The battle of Orzsa in 1514 was apparantly a classic example of its use.

Tactics that seem to have the greatest impact on determining the outcome of major battles in the 100 years war are not the knee to knee heavy charge.
It is the combined use of several types of forces, superior field position, and the cavalry feint and retreat, (sometimes performed effectively by English calvary over the same ground that later "heavy charge" lines of French became "bogged down" in while on their destriers) tactic that often won the field.
