Sweyn I of Denmark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And furthermore, Sweyn Forkbeard is known with a high degree of certainty to have presided over a meeting between two of his earls on the Danish island of Sejerø near Zealand's northeastern tip in 993, at least a year before the death of king Erik and Sweyn's supposed "return" to Denmark.
The meeting is believed to have taken place because of an apparent feud between the earl of Bornholm and the earl of Scania, and the king himself came sailing to Sejerø (the probable site of the Battle of Svoldr seven years later) with a large fleet of 60 ships.

Though these megadei do not have to conform to all of the MFL Rules (since, if they did, they would be acceptable for Ranked Battles), I would reccommend that they at least adhere to the guidelines: this includes using proper description structure (Physical Description, Attacks Description, etc.), and at least use the "Offensive/Defensive/Speed/Agility" statistical listings.
They can also be used, with a cooldown of only 1 turn, as cutting torches to remove damaged joints from a limb (either shoulder joints or hip/leg joints) found on the battle field, thus allowing it to cleanly attach the limb to itself.

Maneuvering quite large numbers of sailing ships (including in battle) seems to have been done in the 18th and 19th centuries, but only attempted under oar in the ancient world.
I think I would still maintain that the answer to the original question would have to be that ramming-type warships of the ancient world would NEVER have done battle under sail, as they were not maneuverable enough.
The tactics of the Battle of Svoldr are probably typical of sea battles:

reason-overall, this battle was pretty weak, but swolf came with better puncehs and personals, since thats all tehre was in this battle...lol...
