The brief engagement was a Confederate delaying action that allowed General Joseph E. Johnston to bait a trap for the Union army at Cassville.
Johnston, believing that the opportunity for a successful battle had passed, ordered Hood and Polk to move to a new line east and south of Cassville, where they were joined by Hardee who had been pushed out of Kingston.

During the battle of Intrenchment Creek (Atlanta), the Orphan Brigade attacked along the general route of this modern road, toward the Federal lines on the ridge line in the left center distance (where the school is today).
On 6 August 1864 the Brigade found itself on the far left of the Confederate line, where it was attacked by a strong Union probing force near Utoy Creek.
Many men of the 2nd and 6th regiments were overrun and captured, along with the battle flag of the 6th Kentucky.

Wade's brother Wesley was wounded on the 4th of August at the battle of Utoy Creek, Georgia.
During the battle of Nashville on December 16th, 1864 the regiment made a charge and captured four pieces of artillery and about 200 or 300 prisoners.
I have reenacted many of the battles that Wade and the 8th Tennessee were involved in and have experienced first hand what they experienced and how they suffered.
