The Japanese invaded Kiska Island in the Aleutians chain in June, 1942 in a sideshow to the Midway campaign, Subsequently they took Attu Island 200 miles east, at the end of the chain.
For their part, the Japanese considered evacuating the two islands during the winter of 1942-43, but reinforced them instead to guard against an American attempt to leapfrog over to the Kurile Islands, not as a prelude to an advance up the chain toward the Alaska mainland.

The P38 Lightning would be a good addition as well as the F4F Wildcat and maybe even the B-29 Superfortress and the B-25 for the U.S. The battle for Saipan would make a good map with the D-day on June 15, 1944.
The battle of the Komandorski Islands which was part of the Midway campaign would be interesting to recreate.
I agree with expanding upon BF's maps and redesigning some (Iwo Jima) i think the battle around the Komandorski Islands plays some if not a good amount to the war and eventual sucess of the U.S. in the Pacific.
