Battle of Borodino - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A huge panorama representing the battle was painted by Franz Roubaud for the centenary of Borodino and installed on the Poklonnaya Hill to mark the 150th anniversary of the event.
The Battle of Borodino (Russian: Бородино) (September 7, 1812, or August 26 in the Julian calendar then used in Russia), also called the Battle of the Moskva, was the largest and bloodiest single-day battle of the Napoleonic Wars, involving nearly a quarter of a million soldiers.
The battle was likely the bloodiest single day of the Napoleonic Wars and one of the bloodiest in modern times, perhaps not exceeded by the First Day on the Somme in 1916 or any of the three days of the Third Battle of Nanking in 1864.
