Museum officials said Dr. Ballard delved into the world's largest depository of PT Boat artifacts and memorabilia on board the battleship USS Massachusetts, and he examined two PT Boats that were restored by PT Boats Inc., an organization with nearly 9,000 members.
"As the home of the National PT Boat Museum, Battleship Cove is proud to present the brave tradition of American PT boaters," said one of the museum's strongest supporters, Dominic DiMaggio, the former Red Sox slugger and a PT boat pilot in the San Francisco Bay area.
Known worldwide for his discoveries of the RMS Titanic, the German Battleship Bismarck and the lost fleet of Guadalcanal, Dr. Ballard in May located the wreckage of President Kennedy's PT-109, which was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer in World War II.

The Japanese Suicide Demolition Boat is on display at Battleship Cove, the world’s largest collection of historic naval ships, and is owned by PT Boats, Inc., headquartered in Germantown, Tennessee.

The Saturday afternoon of their arrival, everyone received a tour of the USS Massachusetts, a World War II battleship, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, a destroyer, and the U.S.S. Lionfish, a World War II submarine, as well as a Russian missile frigate.
At the PT Boat museum nearby, cadets saw two PT boats, several Japanese suicide submarines and other various exhibits.
