Gal Ogliastra Baunei (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08) |
 | | The territory of Baunei is situated on the oriental coast of Sardinia, on the northern border of the region of Ogliastra, with Dorgali to the north, Urzulei, Talana, Triei to the west, and Lotzorai to the south. |
 | | The popular belief is that Baunei was founded by a goatherd who, around the 10th century, abandoned the plains that were rife with malaria and threatened with invasion by the Saracens, and that it later assumed its name from the castle constructed by the Dorians between the 10th and 11th centuries, which was called Baun. |
 | | Baunei retains the traditions of its past, for example, a particular ritual that has all but disappeared completely is the ceremony known as “pletare”. |
