The Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative (BAWSI) is a public benefit, nonprofit corporation with a mission to create programs and partnerships through which women athletes bring health, hope and wholeness to our community.
The Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative - BAWSI - arose from the remnants of that effort, created to ensure that the WUSA would not be the zenith of a short-lived golden age of women's sports but rather another step toward women's full achievement in the sports world.
The task was to create a private, non-profit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area to reach those twin goals.

 Women In Sports Careers Events
It was a great turn out for the WISC Network event in the Northern California area (SF/SJ/Oakland) on August 10th.
The evening was a success as 30 women from the greater Miami area gathered for a night of networking and guest speakers.
Our fantastic speakers included Kim Stone, Executive Vice President and GM of the AmericanAirlines Arena, where she discussed her success in the sports industry and her experiences with the NBA Miami Heat as well as the importance of networking with other women.

A new American women's professional league, the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), made its debut in 2001.
Eight teams competed in the inaugural season — Atlanta Beat, Bay Area CyberRays, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, and Washington Freedom.
The WUSA announced its breakup in Sept. 2003.
