Grandpas, and other child chasers, have to be on top of their game at Bay Beach, where it costs just 25 or 50 cents to ride the giant slide, merry-go-round, Ferris wheel and a dozen or so other rides, and kids go until they drop.
The first roller coaster was built in 1901, followed by more rides and attractions for kids and adults (the best big bands in the land appeared at the Bay Beach pavilion) but since it became a city park in the early 1950s, Bay Beach has been known for offering families inexpensive good times.
The park's 25 historic buildings cover the development of northeastern Wisconsin through four time periods, and costumed interpreters are on hand to fill in the human side of things.
