  Bay Mills Indian Community - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With the passage of the Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) of 1934, the Bay Mills Indian Community (BMIC) was one of the four original reservations established in Michigan.
In 1937, land was purchased for Bay Mills and the BMIC was organized with the adoption of their Constitution and Charter on November 27, 1937 in accordance with the IRA.
Bay Mills Community College is an accredited tribal college operated by the community.

On March 29, 1833, an act of the Legislative Counsel of the Territory of Michigan approved the 4 square miles in the Southeast corner of Jackson County as Napoleon Township.
The old Township building in the Village Park became a burden and was sold to the Methodist Church.
Napoleon Township approved the request and was extended the opportunity to connect to the line.

When the mill was in operation, a sluice from the pond ran under the road (which ran along the mill dam) and the water fell onto an overshot wheel.
A photograph of the pond and a portion of the mill indicates that it was still in operation in the early twentieth century.
The mill was destroyed by a flood in 1927, and not rebuilt (Jess 1941:17).

Mills' first sunflower crop was sold at a self-serve roadside stand in front of his farm.
Mills said he easily could harvest the sunflower seeds that are grown for human consumption, but he said there isn't a processing facility close enough to make it worth it.

The original lighthouse on this station (1841) was the Saginaw Bay Light, a 65 ft (20 m) oldstyle rubblestone tower.

Unfortunately, simultaneous to the establishment of the light, the copper boom on the island ended, and the Light was extinguished and the station discontinued and abandoned in 1859.
