The Bay View Library was established early, and has been cited as the best summer colony library in the United States.

Overview: Commencement Bay is the harbor for Tacoma, Washington, located at the southern end of Puget Sound.
The nearshore area and waterways of Commencement Bay are used extensively as rearing and feeding habitat by numerous marine species, and the bay serves as a migratory pathway for salmonids.
NOAA's concerns about the Commencement Bay area involve the adverse effects to its trust resources caused by the release of hazardous substances in the bay and its waterways, and subsequent contamination of sediments on the bottom of the bay.

The people on the west side of Washington state are boxed in by the mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west; so there is a lot of people and cars but not many quiet roads!
Washington state drivers were still asleep so we had the road to ourselves as we cruised passed more mountains, dropping in elevation.
Tomorrow it will be a short ride to Bay View State park where we will touch our tire into the Pacific Ocean and complete our journey.

On October 11, 2000, the Trustees, along with the City of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle, hosted a dedication celebration to recognize several restoration projects: the Middle Waterway (City), the Yowkwala, Skookum Wulge, Squally Beach, and Mowitch NRDA restoration projects.
The project restores approximately 0.66 acres of intertidal habitat by excavating about 2,000 cubic yards of material, grading an area north of the existing vegetation line, and planting intertidal vegetation.
Runoff from the hillside on the north side of Marine View Drive, which forms the eastern project boundary, is intercepted and routed through the project site in a dendritic channel pattern.

Washington, 2 brant were observed grazing on grass in a field at least 110 feet from the high water mark.
Boundary Bay - wind was at 35 mph and gusting, overcast, 5-6 foot seas, rain showers, tide 10 feet and rising.
We have read the most bands at BSQ for a few reasons: the bay is alot smaller than the others and so it is easier to travel in, the brant return to the same roosting sites each day, and the brant come in very close to shore when they are roosting.
