Bay of Belfalas - The Lord of the Rings Wiki - A Wikia wiki
The Bay of Belfalas was the remainder of the eastern edge of the Great Gulf that had divided Beleriand from the Lands to the South in the First Age.
After the end of the War of Wrath a large section of western Middle-earth was drowned, and with the new coastline the Bay of Belfalas extended from Andrast to the Mouths of Anduin, and then south past Umbar to the unknown southern shores.
The Bay was named for the region of Belfalas (or "Great Shore"), and in it lay the rocky island of Tolfalas.

During the War of the Ring, the Belfalas was raided by the Corsairs of Umbar, and therefore did not send any men to help defend Minas Tirith, until Aragorn liberated the coast with the Grey Company, freeing Gondor's southern armies to follow him north to relieve Minas Tirith.

Belfalas was founded as a Haven by Elves, though its exact origins are disputed.
According to one tale, it was established late in the First Age by Falathrim, fleeing the destruction of Brithombar and Eglarest.
But other accounts suggest that Belfalas was in fact founded at the beginning of the SeA by Sindar of Doriath, who still begrudged the Noldor.

Amroth followed her, and they decided to travel together to the Bay of Belfalas, where a colony of Silvan Elves and their haven existed.
Some light on the further fate of Nimrodel is shed by one of the last writings of Tolkien, when the genealogy of Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth, is given, and his exchange with Legolas in Lord of the Rings is explained.
Apparently, Nimrodel with her companions came finally close to the Bay of Belfalas, and one of the elven maidens (in some versions of the legend believed to be, almost certainly erroneously, Nimrodel herself) was sheltered by a Man dwelling close to Belfalas, and wed by him.

It was bounded by the Bay of Belfalas to the west, the Ephel Duath on the north east and in the north and south by two major rivers, the Poros and the Harnen.
From our knowledge of the neighbouring lands of Ithilien, Mordor and Harad, we can speculate that its land were fertile, at least along its coast and water courses.
