	Bayan Olgiy
		Bayan Olgiy Aimaq is divided into 13 administrative districts, the aimaq centre “Olgiy”, and 12 “soums” Altai, Altantsogts, Bayannuur, Bugat, Bulgan, Buyant, Deluun, Nongonuur, Sagsai, Tolbo, Ulanhus, and Tsengel.
		The aimaq center, Olgiy is located at a latitude of 48°N, and a longitude of 89°E. It has an altitude of 1988 meters (6522 feet).
		The population of Bayan Olgiy is not mainly Mongol, like the rest of Mongolia.

		Bayan Olgiy (Mongolian: Баян Өлгий, Kazak: Баян Өлгей, also spelled in English as Bayan Ulgii, Bayan Ölgiy, Bayan Olgii, etc...) was established in 1940.
		The highest mountain in Mongolia Khuiten Uul (4374 m) is located in this aimaq, in the north, on the border with China.
		The Aimaq is made up of thirteen administrative units, the aimaq center Olgiy and twelve soums (a soum is a subdivisions of an aimaq).

		From Khovd the journey to Bayan Olgii is not long but does go high (two passes over 2600 metres) and therefore needs care as there is a lot of snow around.
		Olgii is the only aimag of Mongolia which has a majority Kazach population.

		From this valley it was a two day ride into Olgiy, the town which had forever seemed like a distant, almost impossible destination.
		Olgiy was also the first big town that I would have to take the horses through since I needed to cross the bridge in the middle of town.
		I liked the idea of selling the horses in a region with many herders, and not too close to the border where the culture is often corrupted and it might be hard to find a buyer.

		Perhaps this is how borders would have once been- without the bureaucracy and guards.
		Only later did I discover that in this area, the Khovd river is the border between Uvs province and Bayan Olgiy.
