Comments on Open Source Software / Free Software (OSS/FS) Software Configuration Management (SCM) Systems
SCM projects that are conceptual descendents of GNU arch include Arx (which has poor Windows support), Bazaar (also named baz) which is essentially a friendly fork of GNU Arch to improve it (primarily its UI), and especially Bazaar-NG (also named bzr).
Other SCM prototypes have been built on git, and various interfaces have been developed to other SCMs (in particular, there's a prototype git-to-Darcs interface, and GNU Arch's Tom Lord announced he was planning to switch to the git format though it's not clear that will really occur).
In distributed SCM systems, the field is currently crowded, with many people having developed early stages with significantly different approaches to the problem.

 Tailor - DarcsWiki
Tailor is a tool to migrate changesets between ArX, Bazaar, Bazaar-NG, CVS, Codeville, Darcs, Git, Mercurial, Monotone, Subversion and Tla repositories.
The bigger thing that prevents the major version bump is compatibility: as of 0.9.17, there is no way to convert a cvsync state file into the format used by tailor, so you cannot use this version on projects started with old 0.8.x.
Current version, 0.9.17, seems good enough to start promoting it for public consumption

Comments on Open Source Software / Free Software (OSS/FS) Software Configuration Management (SCM) Systems
Besides CVS, Subversion (SVN), svk, GNU arch, and Monotone, there are many other OSS/FS SCM systems, such as Aegis, CVSNT, Darcs, FastCST, OpenCM, Vesta, Superversion, Codeville, and git/ Cogito, Mercurial I've already mentioned Bazaar, Arx, and Bazaar-NG.
However, implementing svk on top of subversion is a very heavyweight way to create a distributed SCM system, far exceeding what it takes to implement a natively distributed SCM system.
I'm not trying to completely exclude these others from consideration; I just don't have enough time to analyze them too, though for several of them I gathered enough information to decide that I wasn't as interested in learning more.

Obviously, malicious developers are bad thing, but an SCM system should always be able identify exactly who inserted any malicious code (in a nonrepudiable way), and protect the integrity of the SCM history so that changes can be easily undone (and re-checked, once you've found a culprit).

GNU arch gives you a lot of control using lower-level commands, but it doesn't (yet) automate a number of tasks that it really should be automating.
GNU arch is a very interesting competitor, and works in a completely different way from CVS and Subversion.

In the last week, Felix Berger has sent me some patches to make Kompare accept bazaar-ng-generated diffs, Winfried (”winnie” on irc) has started looking at the age-old “cannot save remote files” bug, and Tom Broadbent has started looking at making remote folder comparisons work.
Kompare’s been getting a fair bit of attention from me for the past couple of months (far more than the few months preceding them), but I rarely get contacted by other developers who are interested in fixing something in Kompare, or hacking a new feature into it.
Whilst I’ve been inactive a few things have happened in kompare-land: Joshua Keel has started hacking on Kompare and has written a nice website for it, I’ve taken over maintainership of kompare from Bruggie (who is too busy with real-life stuff these days), and we’re looking for a new logo.

Inside this city there is a marvelous pond of water which is as clear and as good to drink as the water of the [Me]Khong in the dry season.
As this Sukhothai has four very big gates, and as the people always crowd together to come in and watch the King lighting candles and setting off fireworks, the city is filled to the bursting point.
