BeBits - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BeBits is a software download site for the BeOS and yellowTAB ZETA operating systems.
BeBits, being a sort of Freshmeat for BeOS users, has gained enormous popularity over the years.
The site's design hasn't changed much over the years, and those who remember it back from 2000 will be surprised to discover that the look of the website has been preserved, along with the categorizing system.

Be Doper - All the news that fits *I* print
BeBits, one of the most heavily-visited BeOS-related sites on the Internet, is likely to see a torrent of new visitors once Zeta hits the streets and Nichols fully intends to accommodate the needs of these new users.
Right now, BeBits is very utilitarian in its use of web technologies and that's not what software downloaders have come to expect.
BeBits user accounts will be required to post a talkback message, download an application, view the index page, or use the words "be" and "bits" in the same paragraph.

BeBits has been relativel quiet since Chris's update earlier this week, however new builds, for BONE and net_server, of Mozilla Seamonkey (ex-Mozilla App Suite) have been placed up for public consumption.
Over at BeBits there are a number of updates you might not be aware of.
Bebits has been host to thousands of applications, drivers, documents, and a plethora of "different" types of downloads for many years, making it truly the repository for everything BeOS related.

I totally agree that BeBits (and it's purpose) should not be abused in such way that we will end up with loads of unrelevant files/magazines/documents/apps and multiple entries.
I believe that over the years BeBits have been, and will be more and more over-complexed (I should have found a better word for that, but I guess you understand).
This will create two entries in BeBits databases, and everyone should understand that having two, three five and ten of the same kind is a bad thing.

Looking at the names of the new BeBits moderators, you will notice some names mentioned in older "Anti-Zeta" stories.
Sean, one of the BeBits founders, is not pleased with the current developments and revoked the moderator privileges for everyone:
That was never the intention as their primary purpose was to clear out the old stuff and leave everything else alone.

BeBits recently had some hardware issues with 'Marvin', but all is good now after an upgrade to new hardware.
As some of you have no doubt noticed, BeBits was up and down a few times in the last couple of days.
Luckily we had recently purchased and started configuration of some new hardware with the intention of upgrading old Marvin with state of the art computing machinery and an upgraded OS.

Between Bebits being used as a political tool, users in posisions of responsibility abusing their power and going on powertrips, to the concerted efforts to hurt Devs (as in the case of the poor lad who wrote that driver) I'm just about ready to throw in the towel with this community.
I would have hoped that you of all people would be prepaired to accept someones word on the matter, or at the very least accept my word on it.
MYOB was in no way involved in the problems with Bebits, and to accuse him otherwise is at the very least slander.

 BeOS applications : Woogie
Woogie's PGP-integrated EMail part is un-matched on bebits, far as I know (otherwise I wouldn't have got onboard such a long coding trip to create a tool I can use !) The EMail part is about reading/writing only, that is, no network code at all is implemented; i.e., you need a mail daemon!
Though I intend to compile myself a more recent version when I have time (not anxious to -- those binaries come from a trustworthy bedev, but anyone, lemme know how other binaries fare if you have a chance).
Started 2 jun, released to BeBits [for the first time] on 20020728.

- Edge (the one who made Wesnoth 4.x build for BeOS, and has Wesnoth's account on BeBits) promised he'll make package for stable release, and i don't want to start yet another fight in BeOS community (which IMHO is now broken enough).
