BEACHY HEAD, a promontory on the coast of Sussex, England, S.W. of Eastbourne, about 3 m.
This naval battle, known to the French as Bevisier (a corruption of Pevensey), was fought on the 30th of June 1690.
A full account of the battle of' Beachy Head, written with ample quotation of documents, and for the purpose of vindicating Herbert, will be found in Admiral Colomb's Naval Warfare (London, 1 899).

Beachy Head is one of the great headlands of England and, at 162 metres, the highest chalk sea cliff in the country.

I should have been able to have some fairly expansive views from the top of Beachy Head, but these were not available due to the mist, cloud and rain that proved to be ever present.
The cliffs at Beachy Head are 354 feet high, and the lighthouse at the base is only 142 feet high and has a power of 274,000 candlepower.
Turn right and follow a combined cycle path and footpath that heads southwestwards, passing the leisure centre, a lifeboat station and an old redoubt fort (which is now a museum) before reaching the pier in the centre of Eastbourne.

I went to Beachy Head for the first time last weekend, it wasn't ideal weather, with a West breeze as oppose to an ideal East.
I was on the North Kent coast this am - it certainly was windy and I bet Beachy Head was worse.

The country park itself is very nice, and apparently the valley of the river is the last unspoilt and undeveloped river estuary on the south coast.
Near the bottom of the climb I passed a group of Ramblers who were making their way slowly up the hill, and I flew past them, exchanging a few pleasantries with some of them as I passed them.
When it meets a track on the valley floor turn right and follow this track as it heads northwards to the Seven Sisters visitor centre at Exceat, which is beside the A259 road.
