Bead artists need to understand and respect that techniques are out there for everyone to use, but combinations of techniques producing specific results may be unique to a certain artist.
But, if the jeweler has paid for the bead, it is their bead and we have to rely on the integrity of the jeweler as to whether or not he shares the name of the bead artist.
Bead artists who are concerned about the use of their beads should not offer for sale those beads that they do not wish to see in jewelry or have a contract defining the specific uses or rules under which the bead or beads can be used.

Each trillion-shaped bead and the pendant were shaped using sterling silver and 22K bimetal; the 22K gold is on one side of each of these components, giving the piece a unidirectional look.

About a half dozen or more original bead artist in the main ballroom and the remainder of the vendors were bead resellers.
Bead prices were somewhat higher here...but you had a good selection to choose from.
There were several excellent bead artist here and one Idaho ROCK dealer with a very good selection of slabs.

Bead makers Tasha Walen and Lincoln Farabee are the featured artists and newest members of Juneau Artists Gallery First Friday for May. They met playing bass as music majors in college and four years later they are still making music and "carrying the torch" for each other.
Many of their beads contain gorgeous random patterns, which are made using "fritz" which are tiny shards of glass that melt into the bead body to make the designs.
Later, the holes in the beads are cleaned, and beads are made into jewelry using silver wire in a variety of necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Put simply, she says "I learned that beading is more than a craft, but art and history as well." Today, though Atkins lectures, teaches workshops, and has her work shown in galleries and venues around the country, she still feels very much like a student.

In the beginning, the biggest challenge I had was not being able to make beads right away, because I didn't have the equipment yet, so I kept a journal of drawings and ideas that I could refer to later, made business cards, registered my business, and did some other business preparations while I was waiting.
I think the biggest disadvantage that most bead artists have today is new bead makers who take the developed style of an established bead artist and claim it as their own idea.
For me, exploring new ideas is a part of the joy of making beads, and I am constantly surprised when I see "knock offs" of not only my own work, but also several other well-known artists.
