Beal was also to pay $400,000 in compensation to the indigenous people who would have to relocate out of the flight path of the spacecraft, called the "footprint." Also included was $25,000 to $100,000 per launch, depending on the number of launches per year.

City Manager Rick Menchaca said education reimbursement is something the city's "Generation X Committee" is examining as a possible solution, but according to Urby, education incentives have not helped the police department much.
City officials seemed to reach a consensus that higher pay -- possibly in the form of a one-time, merit-based bonus or raise -- might be needed in order to retain qualified staff but acknowledged this alone would not necessarily solve the problem.

 City of Lansing, Michigan
The City of Lansing was founded as Michigan's capitol city through a provision of the 1837 Michigan constitution.
Biddle City was never developed, and the area's pioneer settlement, which began in the early 1840s prior to the capitol relocation, centered around the Grand River in North Lansing rather than in the more southerly Biddle City area.
The routing of four railroads through the city between 1863 and 1873 and the 1872-78 construction of the new capitol were the major reasons for this growth.

Salchert was born March 7, 1875, in Central Mine, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, and when a boy, moved with his parents to a farm near Beal City.
He married Mae Perry in the late 1800s and moved to a farm east of Beal City, Michigan and later to a farm northeast of Rosebush.

William James Beal (1833-1924) was Professor of Botany at M.A.C. from 1870 to 1910.
The site he chose was bisected, at the time, by a small creek that flowed from a tamarack swamp east of where Morrill Hall now stands, crossed the "sacred space" north of College Hall, and drained into the Red Cedar River.
The creek still flows through Beal's garden, which today is the oldest continuously-operated botanical garden in the United States, but during the period from 1888 to 1914, the ravine was incrementally filled in and the water diverted into an underground culvert.

The weather bureau estimated winds were in excess of 200 kph in the tornado, which would place it at F2 level.
The tornado was small but unusual in that it was a winter tornado that followed the squall line of a thunderstorm cell forming just West of Rottnest Island, just off the coast then touching down south of the city over a 4km path.
I live in Beal City, Michigan and on June 21, 1996 a tornado hit north of my house.
