Was mich immer wieder fasziniert, ist nicht nur die besondere Qualität vieler Bands aus diesen Breitengraden, die sich ja mittlerweile auch völlig zu Recht als feste Prog-Größen in der Szene etabliert haben, sondern auch die erstaunliche Vielzahl an neuen, hoch talentierten Bands, die immer wieder mal auftauchen.
Völlig losgelöst von der schwedischen Prog-Szene sind Beardfish wohl übrigens nicht zu sehen, denn ihre "thank you"-Liste legt nahe, dass es zumindest eine Verbindung zu den Musikern von Paatos und Anekdoten gibt.

The band demonstrate that they are perfectly capable of playing real prog, and fortunately, the progressive elements edge out the metal, otherwise this release would be on the Sensory label rather than The Laser’s Edge.
Beardfish is an outstanding Swedish progressive band blending many 1970’s prog styles on the double-CD The Sane Day (2005), their 2nd.
There are elements of Swedish 70’s bands (Trettioåriga Kriget, Bo Hansson, Made in Sweden, Kaipa), the great Dutch bands Supersister and Focus, Gentle Giant, the Canterbury Bands, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, and much more.

Auf der zweiten CD überwiegen die Instrumentaltitel, von denen Return To Mudhill einen Höhepunkt darstellt in einem ansonsten ziemlich geschlossenen Werk, dessen Aufnahmen bereits aus den Jahren 2004 und 2005 stammen.
Et d'autant plus délicate que Beardfish a décidé, mais c'est finalement tout à son honneur, de nous la compliquer.
Bref, Beardfish, s'il ne réalise pas le sans faute, surprend par sa capacité créatrice et son adaptabilité, parvenant à un bel équilibre entre accessibilité et audace.

But, there's a big problem for me in reviewing it - I don't have a copy any more.
Here's what happened: I got drunk (don't all of tales of woe start that way) at a music festival, and ended up giving my copy of Imaginary Diseases to the singer/keyboardist/guitarist of a Swedish band called Beardfish.
If you've never heard them, I highly recommend their second album, The Sane Day, which sounds like a weird mix of Zappa and early Genesis, with all sorts of other odd stuff thrown in for good measure.
