Bearsden is one of the premier places to live in Scotland with an abundance of good quality homes, schools and shops.
Bearsden train station is a 5 minute walk and is on the Milngavie Line from Glasgow Queen Street station (low level platform) with a 1/4 hourly service.
At other times a walk around the streets and into the shops is the real way to sample the character of Bearsden with its taste and style.

Bearsden, just to the north of Glasgow, lies on the course of the Antonine Wall.
When work was starting on the development of some flats in the early 1970s (on the site of the Bearsden Roman fort) excavation was carried out and a bathhouse discovered.
Analysis of the "deposits" shows something of the Roman diet at Bearsden: ground wheat grain fragments, ground barley grain fragments (apparantly used as "punishment rations" for soldiers), figs, corriander, opium poppy seeds, celery, hazel nuts, flberry, raspberry and bilberry.

Bearsden is a residential suburb of Glasgow which has a stream called the Manse Burn that runs through it.
The fossils include shrimps (Tealliocaris, Palaemysis, Crangopsis, Tyrannophontes, Minicaris and the enigmatic copepod, Cyclus), fishes (photograph of a juvenile fish taken with UV light), sharks (the 'Bearsden Shark' is a well known fossil and is frequently illustrated in popular books (photographed in toluene), myodocopids, and bivalves.
This is the material I did my PhD thesis on, so the locality is of particular significance to me. The preservation was so good, that even muscle-blocks and blood vessels were preserved in some crustaceans.

The Bearsden fort covered 2.4 acres (0.9 ha.), which included administrative and storage buildings, graneries, workshops, barracks, and a bath complex.
