Beat the Geeks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beat the Geeks is a comedy game show which aired on Comedy Central in the United States from 2001 to 2002 (reruns of the program also played on The Comedy Network in Canada).
On the show, contestants face off in trivia matches against "geeks" who are well-versed in music, movies, and television, as well as a fourth geek whose area of expertise varies from things such as Comic Books to Star Wars.
The object is to outsmart the geek at their own subject, a task made much easier, considering that the geeks are given questions of considerably greater difficulty.

Geek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geek may not always have the same meaning as the term nerd (see nerd for a discussion of the disputed relation between the terms).
Most geeks are adept with computers and treat hacker as a term of respect, but not all are hackers themselves - and some who are in fact hackers normally call themselves geeks anyway, because they (quite properly) regard `hacker' as a label that should be bestowed by others rather than self-assumed.
In the past, the image of geeks has almost always been associated with someone who was assumed to be more intelligent and educated than the general public due to the notion that many of them were intellectually talented.

 Review: Beat the Geeks
After each geek has been faced, the toss-up round ends and still, the lowest scorer is eliminated.
Prizes could be tailored to each geek, such as a role in a slasher film for the movie geek, or a "Seinfeld" landmarks tour for beating the TV geek in the bonus.
In season two, more staging was added around the set, some stylized "G" logos were sprinkled around, the geeks were given colored robes, the graphics were spiced up, and the contestant podii were made sleeker and no longer had extension cords protruding from them.

HMFY - TV Review: Beat The Geeks
The only humorous bit about this show is watching these self-proclaimed "geeks" act all holier-than-thou spouting their knowledge and then watching them fumble when they are told they're wrong.
Every time a geek is challenged, they have to say something insulting and witty, only it keeps coming out as them looking unimaginative and lame.
And I've come to the conclusion that the people who came up with the idea, the host, the "geeks", the contestants, the audience, and anyone who is a fan should be put through a wood chipper ala Fargo, and then used as chum so that we could get some use out of them.

"Beat the Geeks" is a one-of-a-kind game show designed to allow the true "geek" to defend his wealth of knowledge, as ordinary contestants summon the courage to challenge the Geeks in their self-proclaimed area of Uber-knowledge.
For the "Beat the Geeks" challengers, the mission is to take the Geeks back in their rightful place and win a variety of prizes.
For the Geeks, it's a shot at fame and a chance to prove that the time spent down in the basement by themselves was well worth it.

I think short-haired Music Geek was gone after prolly 10-15 eps, when Andy took over; the reason why you saw Shorty enough times is due to the sensation of taping shows in order, not having a returning champion so that you can air them out of order.

An added plus of using real-life geeks in the show, is the snobbism that often naturally is associated with know-it-alls.
Not only do the Geeks get to shame the contestants with their superior knowledge, but they also get to hurl insults at the players when they get answers wrong.
The show's three resident experts are Paul Goebel as the TV Geek, Andy Zax as the Music Geek and Marc Edward Heuck as the Movie Geek.

The Geeks get a chance to show off by spouting facts relating to the questions that are asked.
During the second round, the two remaining contestants go head-to-head with the Geeks and Guest Geeks are even worth bonus points to encourage the contestant to try and outsmart them.

There's also a bonus geek - tonight, for instance, it's Simpsons Geek (which'd be a great challenge.) There are trivia questions and an "ultimate showdown" at the end in which the last standing contestant takes on a geek of his or her choice, one on one.
While the geeks attempt to be funny by taking jabs at the contestants, they're extremely scripted and lack any verve.
Gameplay is average, the host is annoyingly "post college hip alternative," and the geeks themselves were knowledgable but incredibly irritating with their forced "I'm smarter than you" chatter after each challenge.

In the second season that aired in 2002, J.Keith was replaced by Blaine Capatch and since then Comedy Central shows BTG re-runs every few months or so and there has been live tours across the country.
