Beatrice Chase always claimed that she was a direct descendant from William Parr, the brother of Henry VIII's last wife, Katherine Parr.
Beatrice Chase often refers to Dream tor without actually saying where it is. The debate still goes on as to whereabouts she is alluding to, probably with Wind tor (SX70785 75808) being the favourite contender.
Beatrice Chase was also supposedly the woman who began the tradition of leaving fresh flowers on the suicide, Kitty Jay's grave.

Beatrice Chase is the pen name for the Dartmoor based writer who was born Olive Katherine Parr, the name on the simple cross on her grave in Widecombe churchyard.
A direct descendant of William Parr, brother of Catherine, the sixth wife of Henry VIII, she was known as ‘The Lady of the Moor’ and had a great passion for Dartmoor.
I read one book by Beatrice Chase some time ago which had quite a bit about Jays Grave in it, a Dartmoor legend which fascinated her, I think it may have been 'The Heart of the Moor'.

A high speed chase ended with the arrest of a Beatrice man Sunday afternoon.
Chad Bissegger, 20, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, minor in possession, driving under a suspended license, open container, reckless driving, obstructing an officer and flight to avoid on Sunday after a two-hour high speed chase, according to a Gage County Sheriff's Office report.
Bissegger, reaching a speed of 90 mph, led officers on a chase for two hours, driving through Pawnee County, Johnson County and back into the northern part of Gage County on Hackberry Road, according to the sheriff's office report.

The moor is a lovely, wild place, and a hundred years ago (the book is set in 1901) it must have seemed (at least to the popular imagination) terribly remote and isolated.
I found a wonderful book, The Heart of the Moor, by a woman named Beatrice Chase, who moved there in a "get-away" spirit just after the turn of the century (a woman after my own heart).
She has some beautiful descriptions and pieces of dialogue, all the more helpful because she tries to reproduce the local dialect.
