Beaumaris Castle, located in Beaumaris, Anglesey, was built as part of Edward I's campaign in North Wales.
Beaumaris (beau mareys - fair marsh) Castle was the last of Edward I's fortresses in North Wales and was built to complement Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech castles in the same area.
The castle has a tidal dock which allowed it to be supplied directly from the sea, and it is surrounded by a water-filled moat.

This largest and most romantic of Edward I's 'iron ring' of castles in north Wales was begun in 1295 to control the Menai Straights between the Welsh mainland and the Isle of Anglesey.
Beaumaris (the name translates loosely as "fair marsh") is a wonderfully symmetrical castle created out of concentric rings of battlements punctuated by round towers at the corners and along the walls.
Best of all, Beaumaris is far enough off the beaten track that you will not have to fight your way through the crowds as you may in larger centres like Caernarfon.
