	Beautification - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Beautification is the process of making visual improvements in a town or city, typically to an urban area.
		Beautification projects are often undertaken by city councils to refurbish their downtown areas, in order to boost tourism or other commerce.
		Often, this is also spurred by broken sidewalks which pose a safety hazard for pedestrians, and potentially insurmountable obstacles for wheelchair users.

	Highway Beautification
		The Beautification Office of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) was established in 1985.
		Oklahoma DOT beautification efforts were recognized nationally by Keep America Beautiful and the Federal Highway Administration with first place awards in 1996, 1998, and 2000.
		ODOT and Beautification Coordinator Joanne Orr were 1999 winners of the Excellence in Roadside Management Award from the National Roadside Vegetation Manager's Association.

	Green Scissors 2002 Highway Beautification Program
		Amend the Highway Beautification Act to eliminate the requirement that taxpayers pay billboard operators to remove billboards that don't conform to existing laws ("nonconforming billboards") and prohibit so-called "vegetation control" in front of billboards.
		In fact, when compensation is negotiated, the billboard industry believes it should be paid not just for the physical costs of the structure, but for all the income that the sign might earn over a 20 - 30 year life span, regardless of its assessed value for property tax or income tax purposes.
		By precluding states from removing billboards via other constitutional methods, Congress protects billboards from beautification efforts; in fiscal year 1996, only 560 of over 73,000 nonconforming billboards were removed.

		Beautification Council within the Florida Department of Transportation.

		It is a budgeted program in which the cost of materials for the project is shared on an equal basis between the citizen group and the city.

	Beautification Committee
		The Beautification Committee recommends projects and provides advice to the Town Council on beautification of public roads and facilities.
