The lasers in question are Class 3B, Class 4 and Intense Pulsed Light Source Lasers, which are typically used for skin treatments and for hair removal; the registration is required under The Care Standards Act 2000 as amended by the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003.
ASA has asked that before accepting advertisements that refer to laser eye surgery or hair removal, publishers should check with advertisers the type of lasers they use and whether or not they are registered with the Healthcare Commission, if appropriate.
