Sun.Star Davao - The great beauty contest debate
BEAUTY pageants have become part of any celebration in the country such that many consider it as part of the Filipino culture that need to be respected and preserved.
Others say not only is it exploitative, but dangerous as well especially after a contestant of a beauty pageant search in a university here was burned alive.
After all, the use of beautiful young women as "symbols of abstract ideals" is never a Filipino or Dabawenyo tradition.

Oh for a real beauty contest - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM
As they are made up now, beauty contests can't quite decide whether they exist to create envy in other women or give lecherous men thoughts to torture them at nights.
In one moment these contests are into raw flesh, then in the next, the pretence is made that each girl must have a mini-thesis floating in her head.
In such a contest we would only have to worry about the winner when she reaches the Miss World contest and we all have to turn down the television when it is her turn to speak.

The Keynesian beauty contest is the view that much of investment is driven by expectations about what other investors think, rather than expectations about the fundamental profitability of a particular investment.

A beauty contest, or beauty pageant, is a competition between people, based largely, though not always entirely, on the beauty of their physical appearance.
There are also beauty contests for children; they are controversial, in particular if the term "sexy" is used and/or the children are dressed in no more than a swimsuit.
Beauty contests for women often have rules regarding the sexual "purity" of the contestants: for example, they must not be married, must not become pregnant, must agree to remain celibate during their "reign", and must agree to refrain from other acts that the contest organizers regard as "moral turpitude".
