 Forest County Pennsylvania Brief History
Although elections were held in Forest County as early as 1852, the state vote was still counted with Jefferson County for a number of years afterward.
The rules governing Jefferson County bar were adopted to govern the Forest County court.
The pionerr courthouse of Forest County was built in Marionville by Bennett Dobbs, of hewed logs and afterward weatherboarded and painted white.

 Ringgold Township, Jefferson County Pennsylvania History
The township is bounded on the north by Beaver township, on the east by Rose and Oliver, on the south by Porter, and on the west by Armstrong county.
Martin H. Shannon is a resident of Brookville; Daniel Shannon, their father, settled in Armstrong county, in 1823, from where removed to Beaver township, in 1848, and resided there until 1861, when he went to reside with his son, Philip H. Shannon, at Brookville, where he died in the ninety-first year of his age.
In 1860 he was elected sheriff of Jefferson county, and removed to Brookville, where he resided until his death, in 1883.

 Crumrine - Hanover Twp.
Hanover is the extreme northwestern township of Washington County, having the county of Beaver and the State of West Virginia, respectively, for its northern and western boundaries.
On the east it is bounded by Robinson and Smith townships, and on the south by Smith and Jefferson townships.
In April, 1793, a petition (indorsed "a petition for Riche township"), and signed by William Ferguson and twenty-three others, "Inhabitants of Smith and Hanover townships," was presented to the court asking for the erection of a new township to embrace a part of Hanover by bounds specified.

The township of Cross Creek retained its original territory and limits until May, 1806, when a portion of it was taken to form the township of Mount Pleasant; and in 1853 the township of Jefferson was formed from the western part of Cross Creek, reducing the township to its present limits.
Robert Patterson, of Smith township, presided at that meeting, and the law was adopted by all the townships in the county, with five exceptions.
Cross Creek township was a separate justice's district from its erection in 1790 till the erection of election districts, May 4, 1803, when it became embraced with other territory in District No. 3, and so remained till 1838, when the office of justice became elective, and the township an independent district.

The Kittanning group of three coal beds is of small importance in this county; the upper nowhere exceeds 3`, and its underlying Johnstown cement bed is merely an impure ferriferous limestone.

He came to this county in the spring of 1852, and settled on section 24, of the town of Jefferson.

Thomas Holt, another of the early settlers of Beaver township, was born in Cumberland county, in 1793, and served in the War of 1812.
This township has Clover township on the north and Rose and Oliver on the east while on the west is Clarion county, and Ringgold forms the southern boundary, being separated from the latter by Little Sandy while Red Bank flows along its western boundary.
Beaver, the twentieth township, was organized in 1850, being formed from portions of Clover and Ringgold.
