Becontree ['bɛkəntri] is a place in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in East London, 11.4 miles (18.3 km) east north-east of Charing Cross.
This is because a temporary railway ran down the centre of the avenue during the construction of the estate.
The estate was built by London County Council to rehouse people from London's East End, due to slum clearance.

Barking was an urban district from 1894 and became a municipal borough in 1931.
The Municipal Borough of Barking was abolished in 1965 along with the Municipal Borough of Dagenham and the area became part of the London Borough of Barking (renamed Barking and Dagenham in 1980, although this expression circulated unofficially from the beginning of the fusion to console Dagenham residents).
The town is situated north of the A13 road and east of the River Roding near its junction with the River Thames in East London.

By the middle of the 19th century London stretched into the counties of Essex, Middlesex, Kent, and Surrey and had a population of more than 2.3 million, but it was still controlled by individual town and parish by-laws or acts of Parliament.
In 1965 the Greater London Council replaced the LCC and its jurisdiction was expanded to an area which exceeded 600 square miles, encompassing most of Middlesex and parts of other surrounding counties.
Described as the tallest structure east of the Tower of London it carries a Saxon cross from the 800s.Part of the parish was taken to form the parish of St Marys Stratford at Bow.

The last i heard he was living in gypsey hill london but that was about 12-15 years ago i don't know if he is still there.
