Bedazzled Movie Review by Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
And though " Bedazzled " 2.0 stumbles in a number of places, it still manages to be a somewhat enjoyable time-waster, mainly on the strength of Fraser's charm and Hurley's 'devilish' enthusiasm.
"Bedazzled" is not a 'laugh-out-loud' sort of comedy-- it is more the kind of movie that will give you a silly grin across your face for most of the running time, with the occasional bit of breakthrough hilarity.
The first half of the film is clearly the stronger one, with a number of truly memorable scenes-- Elliot's futile attempts to socialize with his coworkers (and their reactions to his overeager style), his initial meeting with the Devil, and his first wish.

 JoBlo reviews the movie "Bedazzled"
A remake of the 1967 comedy starring Dudley Moore and Racquel Welsh (growl!!), this movie takes some of the basic elements from the original, and brings them to age with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley in the lead.
I thought the movie had a nice message, showing that you'll never get any happiness trying to be somebody else, and there are more important things than wealth, power and all the other things that people chase.
Bedazzled is a dazzling, funny, comedy with a surprisingly sweet side.

Review of Bedazzled, Oct. 26, 2000
Bedazzled is a remake of the 1967 movie of the same name starring Dudley Moore and Peter Cook.
Movies like this have a hard time keeping up the funny while allowing the Damned to really feel his impending doom.
Bedazzled interjects a little soul-searching, but touches only very lightly on the un-silly part of eternal damnation.

Way back in 1967, the original Bedazzled was a small scale comedy starring Pete Cook and Dudley Moore, which in itself was based on the Faust story.
This movie mainly calls for her to look hot, and that she does with ease, though she can't act hot - note to Liz, see Liv Tyler's performance in One Night at McCool's as a guide.
This is a decent transfer of a movie that features lots of bold primary colours, red obviously playing a big part.

Bedazzled stars Brendan Fraser as a socially inept computer programmer who makes a deal with the devil in order to win the love of one of his coworkers.
Harold Ramis wrote and directed this remake of the 1967 movie of the same name, which starred Peter Cook as the devil and Dudley Moore as a depressed short-order cook.

Bedazzled was made long before 10 and Arthur made Dudley Moore an unlikely movie star.
Though he played character roles in movies like The Princess Bride and Black Beauty, he was never able to parlay his sneaky sense of humor into starring roles.
Not only does the movie offer some sly commentary on Christian morality, it has a cameo with Raquel Welch as the embodiment of Lust.

 BBC - Films - review - Bedazzled
"Bedazzled" is a biting, mischievous and witty satire of the highest order.
What stops "Bedazzled" becoming little more than a series of sketches is Cook's relentless craving for mischief, filling the gaps between wishes with understated asides such as ripping the last page out of books and flicking parking meters to 'expired'.
OK, so it was made in 1967, but there's not a word that doesn't still apply, so we can enjoy it every bit as much now as some of our parents did more than 30 years ago.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday would be spent playing and replaying segments to marry the movie's visuals to a temporary soundtrack--a process Ramis calls "tedious" yet one that is essential to establishing the tone and orchestrating the laughs of the comedy.
As is typical of a movie at this point in the post-production process, composer David Newman has not yet written the score, so music editor Curt Sobel, Ramis and the others set the scenes' appropriate moods by plundering previous film scores and other sources.
He says his previous movie, "Analyze This," was more of a test-screening "slam dunk" because it "rollicked right from the beginning." The episodic structure of "Bedazzled" makes it more challenging, he adds, but it also seems to be working on a more emotional level.

But most people don't go to the movies just to see the costumes, so I'm going to have to be mean here and say that the parts of "Bedazzled" (2000) that are funny are not new and the parts that are new are not funny.

Bedazzled. _A Hollywood Jesus Movie Review
While watching Bedazzled I noticed that the Devil's office was full of art that recalled The Fall: Eve and the apple, Adam and Eve with fig leaves, and so forth.
I was impressed with the way the story emphasized each person's responsibility to choose his or her fate, rather than taking the easy route and letting Elliot blame his bad decisions on his upbringing or his treatment at work.
It was also nice to see a movie that let the Devil (and the angel/God-figure) be ambiguous in appearance: the Devil acts like a friend and wears an angel costume, the angel/God-figure poses as a prisoner and wears all fl.

Up close, her angular features and hollow gaze make her as frightening as she is gorgeous, not to mention the annoying bouncy walk that makes you dizzy to watch and a wardrobe change factor that clocks in at once every six minutes.
Bedazzled drags its one-joke scenes through far too many poorly-timed comic moments, with each of its hokey-jokey sequences going on for far longer than is humanly funny (notably one scene about Elliot having been given a small willy becomes truly painful).
The movie is so limp it is all but forgotten on the ride home.

Bedazzled is at its best during the 'wish sequences', when Fraser is left alone to display his obvious comic talent and deliver some laughably stupid alter-egoes.
As such, his Colombian drug lord (who only speaks in Spanish, with subtitles), his over-sensitive 'new man' (who only needs look at a sunset to burst into tears), his under-endowed basketball hero and his sophisticated, ultra-intelligent author are great fun to watch, particularly as you know they will sooner or later screw up.

Satan has also been depicted as a charming and attractive man, as symbolic of the belief that Satan acquires human souls by appealing to their vanity and presenting them with appealing and attractive temptations.
Generally when Satan is depicted in movies and TV, he is represented as a red-skinned man with horns on his head, hoofs, tail, and pitchfork, while often times he is represented as a plain human being, and, in rare instances, only his voice is heard.

Cook and Moore, by both word and action, refer back to Marlowe's tragedy of "Dr. Faustus," to Goethe's epic drama "Faust," and even to Hannah Arendt's theory of the "banality" of evil with reference to the Holocaust, and they do it with the wacky finesse one associates with Monty Python.

Bedazzled gets plus 5 points right out of the gate for finding excuses to outfit Elizabeth Hurley in a red leather cat suit, a cheerleader uniform, a fl leather bikini, schoolgirl plaid, and a tight red cocktail dress slit straight up the middle.
Poor Elliot clearly hasn't seen the 1967 movie on which this Bedazzled is based, or any of the subsequent sit-com knockoffs, because he takes a while to get a hang of the whole making wishes thing.
