The county seat of Trimble County, Bedford is located at the junction of U.S. 42 and U.S. The first settler was Richard Bell, who constructed a house around 1805 on a hill above Bedford Springs.
The first Trimble County courthouse was erected in Bedford in 1837 and was replaced in 1884.
One of the popular spas of nineteenth century Kentucky was Bedford Springs, where many southerners came to sample the waters and escape the heat of the summer months.

Trimble County, located in Northern Kentucky, was established in 1837, and was named in honor of Robert Trimble, a Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1826.
Bedford, the county seat, was founded in the early 1800's by Bedford and Pulaski Bell.
Pro-Southern neighbors of the farm became suspicious, and brought charges against Trimble County's "Petticoat Abolitionist." She appeared before a magistrate, was indicted by the court, imprisoned in Bedford, and was eventually forced to leave the state.
