  Chuck Bednarik - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charles Philip Bednarik (born May 1, 1925 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) is a former professional football player, best remembered as one of the most devastating tacklers in football and the last two-way player in the National Football League.
Bednarik was the first player drafted in the 1949 National Football League draft, chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bednarik's former Eagles number (60) has been retired by the Eagles in honor of Bednarik's achievements with the team and is one of only seven numbers retired in the history of the Eagles franchise.

The Manning Award is one of the newer awards in major college football, being awarded for the first time after the 2004 season.
It is one of three awards for college quarterbacks, the other two being the Davey O'Brien Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
The award is presented by the Sugar Bowl Committee, and was named in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie Manning and his sons Peyton and Eli.

Posted - 06/23/2005 : 10:57:12 PM The Bednarik award (best defensive player in the country) watchlist out, and apparently, Florida St, Tennessee, Auburn, Penn State, Miami and Ohio State each have as many players on the list (3) as the entire Pac 10 combined.
Not being on a watch list doesn't preclude anyone from winning an award, though admittedly is kind of a knock.
