Beer, generically, is an alcoholic beverage produced through the fermentation of sugars suspended in an aqueous medium, and which is not distilled after fermentation.
Beer is one of the oldest beverages humans have produced, dating back to at least the 5th millennium BC and recorded in the written history of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Wood-aged beers are any traditional or experimental beer that has been aged in a wooden barrel or have been in contact with wood (in the form of chips, cubes or "beans") for a period of time (Oak is the most common).

The Lager Beer Riot took place in Chicago, Illinois in 1855 after Mayor Levi Boone, great-nephew of Daniel Boone, proposed an ordinance which would close taverns on Sundays and raise the cost of a liquor license from $50 to $300 per year.
On April 21, after several tavern-owners were arrested for selling beer on Sunday, protesters clashed with police near the Cook County Court House.
Waves of angry immigrants stormed the downtown area and the mayor ordered the swing bridges opened to stop further waves of protestors from crossing the river.

Beer blogging correction: I am advised that I misremembered the name of a beer I had at the Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville, California, that I mentioned in my January 8, 2005 beer blogging post.
A Good Beer Blog notes that up in Canada, there is a long running lawsuit between Anchor Brewing and The Sleeman Brewing and Malting Co., Ltd., in which Anchor is suing for trademark infringement over "Sleeman Steam" beer and Sleeman is counterclaiming to have Anchor's trademark declared void in Canada.
The good folks at Beer at Home suggested that I just go ahead and bottle it directly without any pitching of fresh yeast, and the yeast that was in there did indeed take hold of the bottling sugar and create the normal carbonation you expect in a homebrew.

Bavaria first became part of Germany in 1866, through Bavaria's defeat in the Austrian-Prussian war.
Bavaria is rich in culture and tradition; those traditions are eons old and still practised today.
