	Beetle, Inc.
		The Beetle Cat is a 12 foot, gaff rigged, wooden sailboat first built in 1921 by the Beetle family of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
		Beetle, Inc., located in Wareham, Massachusetts, is now the sole builder of Beetle Cat boats.
		As of October 3, 2003, William L. Womack became the new owner of Beetle, Inc. with Charlie York remaining onboard as the Master Builder.

		The Colorado potato beetle feeds on the leaves of several solanaceous plants and is known as a serious pest of potato and eggplant, as well as an occasional pest of tomatoes.
		The beetle overwinters as an adult in the soil.
		The difficulty with biological control is that in most cases there are so many beetles early in the season that plants are either defoliated or treated with insecticides before the biological control agents have a chance to work.

	Asian Lady Beetle
		The Asian lady beetle, sometimes known as the Halloween lady beetle or the Japanese lady beetle, is a yellow-orange ladybug that is often seen in large congregations near the end of October.
		Most beetles are reported in October and November when congregating to find overwintering sites, and again in February and March during bright, warm, sunny days, as they attempt to return to their outdoor habitat.
		Since lady beetles in late summer and autumn may move to overwintering sites in houses, sheds and other buildings, it is important to use a good quality silicone or silicone-latex caulk to seal cracks around windows, doors, siding, utility pipes and other openings.

	Beetle
		Beetles in the family Lyctidae are known as powder post beetles.
		This beetle is typically found in old wood and may be associated with wood that is partially decayed.
		Death-watch beetles prefer wood that is more moist (greater than 14% moisture) than what powder post beetles prefer and may be less of a problem in houses with central heating and air conditioning.

	Harmonia axyridis
		The multicolored Asian lady beetle is an introduced biological control agent that is spreading rapidly throughout the United States.
		Its large, and even explosive, populations are probably caused by the massive abundance of prey (predominantly aphids and scales), apparent lack of competition from native lady beetles, and apparent lack of native natural enemies.
		The best technique for managing lady beetles is first to prevent their entry into houses and other buildings by sealing cracks and openings around windows, doors, siding, and utility pipes with a quality silicone or silicone-latex caulk.

	Lady Beetle, HYG-2002-98
		Lady beetles, both adults and larvae, are known primarily as predators of aphids (plant lice), but they prey also on many other pests such as soft-scale insects, mealybugs, spider mites and eggs of the Colorado Potato Beetle and European Corn Borer.
		The beetles released in the summer do not disperse any great distance, but remain for the most part in the areas where they were released.
		It also points out that beetles collected from distant states and shipped to other locations may be of less value as a pest eater than the local beetle population.

	Mountain Pine Beetle
		Mountain pine beetles and related bark beetles in the genus Dendroctonus can be distinguished from other large bark beetles in pines by the shape of the hind wing cover (Figure 1, top).
		Spores of these fungi contaminate the bodies of adult beetles and are introduced into the tree during attack.
		Ips and related beetles that emerge early in summer often are mistaken for mountain pine beetle, leading to early reports that "MPB is flying." Be sure to properly identify the beetles you find associated with your trees.

		If agitated or squashed, the beetles may exhibit a defensive reaction known as “reflex bleeding,” in which a yellow fluid with an unpleasant odor is released from leg joints.

		It's hard to say precisely when and where Beetle Bailey first appeared — or even what his name was back then.
		They were soon back at Camp Swampy, but Lois and her family were spun off into a strip of their own — Hi and Lois, written by Walker and drawn by Dik Browne (who, incidentally, inspired the character "Plato").
