Band camp check-in will be from 4:30-5:30 PM at the band room, 278 Babcock Street.
Members of the band need to inform the Office of Housing that they are in the band and are moving in on Wednesday August 31.
Ample time will be given to all band members to get to their dining halls or apartments for meals during the Boston portion of camp.

BAND CAMP CHECK-IN: All members must report to Hill Hall Room 107 between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm to check-in for band camp on August 20 in Hill Hall Room 107.
This fee includes all meals prior to campus food service beginning on Sunday, August 24, two (2) 2003 t-shirts and the band social fee, which is used to fund various social activities throughout the year such as banquets and section gatherings.
Beginning Sunday, August 24, residence halls are open and food service is available, allowing students to provide the remainder of their meals during band camp.

Every year before summer band rehearsals begin, band freshmen usually receive a letter or some other form of correspondence from a UCA Band member they have never met claiming to be their "Band Buddy!" No, this is not some random occurence by a crazed UCA upperclassmen.
The purpose of the this program is to give each freshman and new band member one person whose name they already know prior to the beginning of summer band and who can answer any questions about band or college in general.
Dixie Band Camp is the oldest band camp in the South and the second oldest in the nation, is in it's 64th year and twelveth year on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas.

After the performance students are reminded that there will be no Band for the remainder of the week and should take their instruments home.
Red Band sweaters, white shirts, ties, school slacks or skirts, dark socks for the boys and navy blue tights/stockings for the girls.
All Band members must be at the school in their correct attire by 6:00pm.

Signups are held in the spring for classes to begin in the fall.
The most important event for the BCMS Band is their performance in the KMEA Concert Band Festival, held in Elizabethtown, during the month of March.  This is a performance assessment event where the band is evaluated by four state evaluators and presented a rating to determine their level of achievement for the year.
Individual band members have the oppertunity to participate in the Murray State University's Quad State Band and the 4th District All-District Band.

The municipal band concerts, a staple of summertime entertainment in Harlan, will be featured five times throughout the summer, each beginning at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the municipal concerts, Crilly announced summer lessons for HCHS band students, which will be given the weeks of June 2, 9, 16 and 30, as well as the weeks of July 7 and 14.

As we begin school here at WMU excitement is high as we welcome our new football coach, Bill Cubit, and plan for a season of celebrating the Centennial of our football program.
As I begin my second year here at WMU I must admit that I was disappointed in the turnout of alumni band at last year's homecoming.
I realize that the poor weather kept many from attending, however, please know that this is an important event to me and I hope to see the alumni band grow this year to record numbers.

Students begin instruction during their first year on one of the basic band instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, or percussion.

Students are taught about transposition for their own instrument and others in the band and become quite knowledgeable about basic theory.

The band is composed of students in grades 9-12.  At least 25% of the student body is involved with the band each year.
The band is basically one unit that has only one offshoot, the Jazz Band.
The CHS band is well known in the area for it's excellence in competition.  The concert band always makes the region music contest and usually recieves a 38 or higher from all three judges.  The highest point total is 40.  Several times in recent years we have recieved 40+'s from each judge.
