BNU’s department of Chinese language and literature, history, mathematics, physics, psychology, school of life science, resource, and environmental science were named national training bases for humanities and science.
Beijing Normal University is the first university in China that has been authorized to grant doctoral degree in educational technology.
BNU is a member university of the “Project 211” and “Education Revival Project.” The university is recognized as a key institution by both the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality and received financial support from the two institutions.

It was the Beijing IFLA Conference that opened my eyes, made me understand the situation of librarians in different places all over the world, and stimulated me into write about Chinese librarians, especially female librarians, their work and their life.
Normally, once a worker is asigned to a department, this is a position for life-time.
Normally, every big department has its own support system, for example, each department is in charge of housing, children's education, shopping center, canteen, etc. Institutions such as BNU also have a department that manages the staff's housing, the nursery school, the primary school, and the three middle schools.

In response to demands by Beijing Normal University officials, faculty from this year's Princeton in Beijing program were recently forced to eliminate a substantial amount of course material considered to be critical of Chinese domestic policies.
Officials at Beijing Normal University — which hosts the Princeton in Beijing program — demanded the removal of several textbook chapters, including those referring to China's population control policy and press restrictions, according to East Asian studies professor C.P. Chou, who heads Princeton in Beijing.
The university officials' demands come in the wake of a controversial article written by a former Princeton in Beijing professor that appeared in the Beijing Social Science journal earlier this year.

We stayed for 10 days in Beijing and we always stayed at the Ji-ang hotel on the corner of the Beijing Normal University Campus.
In the hotel lobby in Beijing there was huge 3-Dmap of the campus that the hotel sat on.
All of China is on the same time zone - the time zone of Beijing - and it is 10 hours behind the central US time zone (Time Zone Map) that I was used to so I was ready to go.

The University of California announced today (Friday, May 2) the continued suspension of its Education Abroad Program academic programs in Beijing through this summer due to ongoing risks of severe acute respiratory syndrome.
The program suspended its spring semester programs in Beijing on April 17 and had committed to inform students of its decision about the summer programs by May 10.
