		To the north, his car could only reach Beit Jala village, and to the west, he could go no more than half-way into Beit Sahour village, part of which is Area C with an Israeli military installation.
		The village of Beit Jala was hit the worst by the Israeli bombings in the last months.
		The smallest of the 59 Palestinian refugee camps, Beit Jibrin is a densely populated shantytown, crowded with makeshift concrete houses and muddy ally ways.

	Bethlehem - Crystalinks
		Many refugees from areas captured by Zionist forces in 1947 - 1948 came to Bethlehem, setting up encampments in the north of the city near the road to Jerusalem and on the hillside to the south between the city and Solomon's Pools.
		These later became the official refugee camps of Beit Jibrin (or al-'Azza) and 'A'ida (in the north) and Deheisheh in the south.
		Bethlehem, Beit Sahour and Beit Jala are currently surrounded by Israeli checkpoints and roadblocks, with the main road to Jerusalem cut off at the burder of Jerusalem's municipal area - at Rachel's Tomb.

		Hebron is traditionally one of the oldest towns in Palestine, and from its surrounding villages - including Beit 'Ummar, Bani-Na'im, Beit Jibrin, Dhahriyyeh, Dura and Samula - came some of the richest and most beautiful forms of Palestinian embroidery.
		In contrast was the village of Beit Dajan, some six kilometres southeast of Jaffa, which until 1948 was an influential centre of weaving and embroidery.
		Costumes from Beit Dajan were outstanding for their varied techniques, many of which were adopted from other regional styles.
