Bekonscot began as a hobby for Roland Callingham who up until 1910 lived in Ascot, when he moved to Beaconsfield and in the mid 1920's bought some parcels of land and began to build a few model houses etc. A friend (James Shilcock) added a model railway.
Roland later named the village Bekonscot, Bekon (Beech Trees) from Beaconsfield and Scot from Ascot where he used to live.
When the village was first opened to the public it was free to view, but was invited to donate to charities and even though now admission is charged, over £1.2 million has been given to charity and since the 1930's over 12 million visitors including the Royal Family, have enjoyed walking around the village.
