BELA PALANKA INHABITANTS OCCUPY LOCAL RADIO BELA PALANKA, November 18, 2000 - Otpor activists and the inhabitants of Bela Palanka occupied the premises of the local radio station yesterday in protest at the local Left parties decision to form local power themselves, ANEM correspondent reports.
The inhabitants of Bela Palanka deemed that the results did not represent the real will of the people and thus prevented them from holding the constitutive session.
Dissatisfied with the decision, Otpor members and 6 DOS representatives with the support of dissatisfied Bela Palanka inhabitants occupied the local radio station founded by the municipality and began broadcasting Free Radio Otpor programmes.

Thus Bishops Janicije, Georgije Popovic (who migrated with Partriach Arsenije IV Čarnojević in 1737 and died as Bishop of Timisoara, Rumunia in 1745) and Gavrilo signed themselves as "Bishops of Bela Crkva and Niš".

Dragan Jocic, a journalist of Slobodni Radio Otpor (Radio Free Otpor) in Bela Palanka, reported on Thursday evening from the exceptional electoral meeting of the football club Jedinstvo, which is the former member of the Serbian League.
The president of the Municipal Committee of the Socialist Party of Serbia in Bela Palanka, Miomir Krstic, said that Socialists had nothing to do with this incident.

Belgrade, Dec 2, 2003 - The European Union has set aside €15 million in aid of the development of local governments in 15 eastern Serbian municipalities, while the municipalities will contribute to the project with an additional EUR 3.3, according to a statement.
The project encompasses the municipalities of Kladovo, Majdanpek, Negotin, Bor, Zajecar, Knjazevac, Sokobanja, Boljevac, Svrljig, Pirot, Babusnica, Bela Palanka, Dmitrovgrad, Vlasotince, and Crna Trava and will be managed by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), the Serbian Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, reads the statement.
EAR Director Richard Zinc said the funds will help the 15 municipalities to tackle unemployment and economic problems.
