		Belait is the largest district (daerah) in Brunei, as well as the western-most.
		The district borders the South China Sea to the north, the Bruneian district of Tutong to the east and Malaysia to the south and west.
		The Sungai Belait river flows through Belait and it is the longest river in Brunei.

		Belait District last year scored the best results in the Primary School Assessment Examination, PSR, among the four districts.
		The district’s pass percentage increased from 87.37 percent in 2002 to 92.34 percent last year.

		Kuala Belait - A joint operation to water bomb persistent peat fires along the Seria bypass was held yesterday morning.
		Belait Fire Services personnel have been combating bush and forest fires around the clock and have been monitoring peat fires along affected areas.
		According to the Brunei Meteorological Service at the Civil Aviation Department, the current dry weather conditions in the Sultanate are due to the prevailing inter-monsoon season from late March through May or pre-Southwest monsoon that is slightly drier than normal due to ongoing weak El Nino conditions in the central Pacific Ocean regions, RTB reported.

		The 22-door longhouse at Kampung Bang Taong in Mukim Sukang was officially opened by the Belait District Officer, Dato Paduka Awang Hj Mohd Yusof.
		It replaces the old longhouse which was built at Kampung Apak-Apak on the bank of the Sungai Belait since 1960's.
