Bruges was at the height of its prosperity in the 14th century, when it was the northern counterpart of Venice and its Bourse regulated the rate of exchange in Europe.

We arrived in Brussels and had to deal with the language barrier which made it a little tricky to see where to go to catch our next train but we did it in the end, things are so much less stressful when there are two of you.

On Sunday morning we decided to leave Bruges and visit Ghent on our way back to Brussels but we were quite disappointed with this town.
