in Austin and is bordered by Coryell, McLennan, and Falls counties on the north, on the east by Falls and Milam counties, on the south by Milam and Williamson counties, and on the west by Lampasas and Burnet counties.
Bell County comprises some 1,055 square miles and is divided into regions by the Balcones Escarpment, which runs through the approximate center of the county from southeast to northwest.
The county also became increasingly urbanized: by 1980, 81 percent of the population lived in urban areas, and Bell County was one of the most densely populated counties in the state.

 Bell County, Texas Genealogical Records Information
The county was not really part of the plantation economy like the eastern part of antebellum Texas; two-thirds of the 179 slaveholders in 1860 owned seven or fewer slaves, and only four county residents owned twenty slaves or more.
Bell County whites chafed under the imposition of congressional Reconstruction in 1868, and a Ku Klux Klan-like organization was established in the county.
Due to the small number of fl voters in the county, Radical Republicans were dependent on military assistance for local control, and the election of December 1869 returned Bell County to Democratic party rule.

 Ding Dong, Texas.
Ding Dong was named for a Bell all right, but not Peter Hansborough Bell, the third governor of Texas and the man for whom Bell County is named.
Jim Bowmer of Temple, who wrote the book The Unknown Bell County about local folklore and legends, remembers that Hugh Farr, a fiddler for the Sons of the Pioneers, told the audience of a Johnny Carson Tonight Show that he was raised in Llano, Texas but born in Ding Dong, in Bell County.
The sign pictured two large bells emblazoned with the initials of the cousins, and Hoover surprised them by supplying a name for their store, lettering “Ding Dong” between the two bells.

Miriam Amanda (Ma) Ferguson, first woman governor of Texas, daughter of Joseph L. and Eliza (Garrison) Wallace, was born in Bell County, Texas, on June 13, 1875.

In 1905 the Bell County Commissioners required that a very detailed set of books be kept by the managers or superintendent of the county farm for the purpose of providing monthly reports on the status of the facility.
when they closed the County Home and the Superintendent asked what he was to do with the record book, which I didn't know existed at that time, and I latched on to it and put it in the County Clerk's Office.
We have very recently learned that the cemeteries associated with the various Bell County Poor Farms are being researched as part of a comprehensive archaeological study to learn more about those cemeteries.

Sampson was a railroad station and school community on the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad in northeastern Bell County, at the intersection of Farm Road 1237 with what later became Interstate Highway 35, some five miles north of Temple.
In the community was a rural school for fls called Sampson Hill that served fifty-five pupils in 1903.
By 1963 the school was gone, and the station was no longer named on United States Topographical Survey maps.
