The region was finally ceded to Charles VII of France after the victory of Castillon in 1453 in which he vanquished the English, and the fled Guyenne.

Bell Isle was blockaded yesterday (Monday) by 250 demonstrators who were complaining about the privatisation of the ferry service between the Island and Quiberon.
The blockade was not due to start until 1100, but as of 0800, no vehicular or passenger traffic could leave.
The ferry company pointed out that tourists would now think twice about taking a trip to Belle Isle.
