She then came to Louisville in 1931 and ran trips between the Fontaine Ferry amusement park near downtown Louisville and Rose Island, a resort about 14 miles upriver from Louisville.
She came to Louisville, Kentucky, and was re-christed the Belle of Louisville.
Today, the Belle of Louisville is recognized as the oldest river steamboat in operation, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989.

The Belle of Cincinnati was the first of the three boats competing to cross the finish line, but later was disqualified on the grounds that it is powered by diesel and not steam.
The Belle of Cincinnati's loss was the second-place Belle of Louisville's gain, and the latter was awarded the trophy antlers to display for the next year.

The Belle of Louisville Operating Board directed Belle Capt. Mike Fitzgerald to take the riverboat to JeffBoat in Southern Indiana as soon as possible so a bilge-pumping system can be installed, even though the board does not currently have all of the $135,000 the work is estimated to cost.
Belle officials said they couldn't wait any longer to install the pumping system if the riverboat is to be ready for Thunder Over Louisville, the fireworks extravaganza that kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival.
Belle officials have attributed the $400,000 shortfall to high maintenance costs on the 85-year-old riverboat, a lack of private grants, and problems related to the Belle's sinking in 1997.

Known as the Idlewild, the "Belle" had a brief military career in the 1940's towing oil barges (an affectionate misnomer as barges on the river are "pushed" not "pulled") up and down the Mississippi River to aid the war effort.

What caused the Belle to start sinking early Sunday morning might not be known for several days, and officials didn't know how long it would take to lift the boat from the river bottom or how much it would cost.
