Bellefontaine [pronounced bell-FOUN-tin; IPA: /bɛl.'faʊn.tɪn/] is a city located in the United States; within Logan County in the state of Ohio.
Bellefontaine is on or near the edge of the Virginia Military District, and the Treaty of Greenville delineating lands to be held by Americans from those to be held by natives was poorly administered in the area.
In Ohio, the Bellefontaine micropolis is the 37th most populous CBSA, and the 21st most populous micropolitan statistical area.

Bellefontaine became a major railroad town in the 1890’s when the Big Four (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and St. Louis) made it one of their main terminals and built its largest roundhouse between New York and St. Louis in Bellefontaine.
The emergence of newer means of travel lessened the importance of the railroad and in 1983 the railroad left Bellefontaine.
Bellefontaine is known for having the first concrete street in America built in 1801, and the shortest street in America, McKinley Street, which is about 20 feet long.

An Ohio husband-and-wife are currently being held in BSO’s jail, charged with murdering a 41-year old woman in the Buckeye State.
Ohio authorities had developed information that the couple was hiding out in Broward County and contacted BSO for assistance in apprehending the fugitives.
The dead woman’s car was recovered by BSO detectives who obtained a search warrant, along with Bellefontaine Police, and found the murder weapon, a knife, inside the vehicle.

Bellefontaine is actually pretty sucky compared to Urbana, which has some excellent old architecture, including a grand social row running east of downtown.
