Bellenden Seymour Hutcheson,(VC, MC), (December 16, 1883,Mount Carmel, Illinois - April 9, 1954,Mount Carmel, Illinois), was an American, (also considered Canadian) recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Hutcheson was one of seven Canadians to be awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on September 2, 1918.
On 2 September 1918 in France, Captain Hutcheson went through the Queant Drocourt Support Line with his battalion, remaining on the field until every wounded man had been attended to.

Bellenden Seymour Hutcheson was born at Mount Carmel, Ill., Dec. 16, 1883.
In July 1918, Hutcheson was awarded the Military Medal for dressing the wounds of 100 men on the battlefield while under heavy fire.
Hutcheson received his VC from King George V at Buckingham Palace on May 27, 1919.

Peck was one of seven Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on September 2, 1918.
The other six Victoria Cross recipients were Claude Joseph Patrick Nunney, William Metcalf, John Francis Young, Walter Leigh Rayfield, Bellenden Hutcheson and Arthur George Knight.
Peck was born in Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick, the family had immigrated from New England in 1763.

The letter tells of Captain Hutcheson's brigade, the difficulties in the dugouts, the constant bombardment overhead, the injured people around him, and his constant efforts to rescue whomever he could.
What the letter doesn't tell you, but what the Veteran Affairs blurb at the bottom does, it that Captain Hutcheson received a Military Cross and Victoria Cross citation for his bravery and wartime effort.
